I first started film making from a very young age, picking up my grandfathers old camcorder, and running around the house filming everyone and everything that I could. I found film making fascinating, and the stories that I thought I could create stunned me.
After I left school, I was still non the wiser what I wanted to do, so I went to Walsall College and studied Media in Television, I always was at my best being creative and I think I knew from then on, that this was the path I wanted to take.
I graduated from the University Of Wolverhampton with 2nd class honours in Video and Film Production and for me, this was a great achievement which I am extremely proud of.
A lot of my recent works now focus on Social Justice, and I've worked a great deal within OpenEye Film to help give the poorest of people the voice that they have so longed to gain. Of course taking inspiration from the great Ken Loach, a terrific film-director who's films are full of wit, sometimes humour, but most of all, it's real.
The reasons behind LION.
2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the part decriminalisation of homosexuality for men over the age of 21 in the UK. We have come so far since then and gained many rights, included the equal age of consent, adoption for same sex couples, and ultimately gay marriage. Although we have come so far within the law, there is still a stigma attached to being homosexuality. Homophobia within schools still exists, and many young LGBT people still feel isolated within a very straight word. I wanted to give these young people a voice, to help them find themselves, and let them know that it is OK to be absolutely whatever they want to be. The camera is a powerful tool. Make your voice heard. I hope too, that this film can encourage other people to be a Tom. Be You.
Liam.
