We are very excited to bring you an exclusive interview, with actor Jack McBride who chats to us about his role in the film LION
Hello Jack, can you tell us, what your role is in LION, and what you like about the part?
I will be playing the lead role of Tom, who is a young gay man who is struggling to come to terms with who he is and how to come out. What I like about the character is that he feels very real. I know it is a bit cliche but there are still so many people out there in the same situation and need support and hopefully this film will show to people that there is support out there and it is okay to be confident with who you are.
Was the character of Tom the sort of role you would have thought about before?
Well the last role I played was also a gay character who comes out during the play, although there is a lot more depth to the character of Tom in terms of how he comes to terms with who he is, which I'm looking forward to portraying.
What got you into acting?
I remember the moment that got me into acting was during my first year 7 drama class where we had to pretend that wooden spoon was anything but that so I turned it into a golf club and I hit the sweetest imaginary shot you've ever seen. It was then I realised I had what it takes to be an actor.
Who are your favourite actors / actresses?
My favourite actor at the moment is probably Tom Hardy. He has played so many different types of roles and is just mesmerising in everything he does.
What else have you acted in?
I have mainly performed in stage productions and last year I devised a piece of physical theatre with my theatre company which explored the idea of isolation. I then performed in a surreal comedy called 'The Night Before Christmas' where two men find a Christmas elf in their factory but are unsure if he is a real elf or in fact just some weirdo on drugs. It was as weird as it sounds.
Thanks very much Jack for that.
