WHO'S BEHIND LION? 

LIAM WESSON - PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/WRITER

 

Liam Wesson is a Socialist, realist film maker and photographer based in the West Midlands, UK. 
Liam began film making while studying Media and Television at Walsall College, before moving on to graduating and achieving a BA (Hons) in Video and Film Production, in 2013. 
Liam has written several short films, and produced documentries for the NHS, and a Heritage Railway with production company Mirage21. Liam has since created work with the film group WellRed Films before moving on to form and create films with new, production company; OpenEye Film. 
Liam is currently studying for his MA at the University of Wolverhampton.

KAREN SPRINGER - CONTINUITY/PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Karen is working on her fourth film and has worked as continuity, make-up, screenplay writer, actor, producer and director. She has also worked as a researcher, reporter and as an interviewer on several documentaries. She is looking forward to learning more about film making while working with the LION crew.

 

JACK MCBRIDE - TOM 

​

Jack is a 21 year old, versatile actor from Dudley. He recently graduated from Middlesex University studying Theatre Arts and during this time formed a physical theatre company called Broken Chair. The company devised a show called 'Sonder', performed it at the Brighton Fringe Festival and received 'outstanding' reviews. Since then he has been doing some Stand-Up Comedy and acting for a Birmingham based theatre company called Gritty Theatre and most recently in their performance of the surreal comedy; 'The Night Before Christmas'. Alongside working with Gritty Theatre, Jack is looking to get more experience in front of the camera.

DAVID PARRY - GEORGE 


David has played many lead roles in plays in the North West over the years including Frank in 'Educating Rita', Eddie in 'A View from A Bridge' and Jack Manningham in 'Gaslight'. 

David has also appeared in several pantomimes in both Villain and Dame roles. He is looking forward to the challenge of playing George.

 

LEE TAYLOR - ILLUSTRATION 

​

Lee is an artist from the West Midlands who frequently churns out DIY projects in the form of zines, comics, fine art, and music. His previous and current works include the Australian comic series Collateral: Dear John', the zine 'The Screever', and most recently his own coffee-shop themed comic series 'Ground'.

 

Having never worked for a film before, he's looking forward to the challenge of creating work for a project with a strong narrative within this medium.

 

He is currently studying for a Masters degree in Visual Communications.

DEBORAH WILLS - DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Deborah Wills comes from a factual/documentary filmmaking background and has worked as Researcher, Production Assistant and Assistant/Associate Producer on several programmes for Channel Four Television, BBC2, BBC Worldwide and HTV. She is currently Media Officer with the Shropshire and Marches Methodist Circuit and in that role recently produced and directed two short documentary films for Borderlands Rural Chaplaincy.

TIMOTHY WILKES - SOUND PRODUCTION

MOUREEN LOUIE - CHRISSIE  


Moureen is a stage and theatre actress, she started pursuing her career whilst receiving training at Sheffield Hallam University; studying Performance for Stage and Screen. Since then she has gone to do work with The National Youth Theatre and also got a chance to do some screen work, including commercials and feature films.
After its recently been announced that she will be playing the role of Chrissie in the new film LION, she is most looking forward to portraying and bringing forth to the role a sense of loyalty to friends, and breaking stereotypical chains when it comes to the LGBT community. Looking forward to meeting everyone and doing the film/roles/community justice as its an important story to tell...

 

OpenEye Film networks voluntary film makers who are anti-racist , socialist, feminist, green,  & who are members and allies of the black, disabled and LGBTQ+ communities. We are working towards creating a democratic 'safer' spaces film production environment. OpenEye Film is challenging the suffering caused by Capitalism, by exploring ideas and events in inspirational and challenging ways.
